Myobrace & Myofunctional Therapy
Myobrace® — developed by Myofunctional Research Co. (MRC) over more than 27 years — is a no-braces, no-extraction approach to crooked teeth and poor jaw development in children aged 3–15, with a parallel programme for adults. Instead of just straightening teeth at the end, it corrects the underlying habits (mouth breathing, tongue position, swallowing pattern) that caused the problem in the first place. This is airway-focused, holistic dentistry, and it’s one of the things SAVOY is best known for.

What to expect
We start with a full myofunctional assessment: breathing, posture, tongue and swallowing patterns alongside teeth and jaw development. The programme combines a series of soft, removable trainers worn briefly each day with simple exercises practised at home. Most children see real change in months, not years, and avoid braces entirely.
Is it right for you?
- Children aged 3–15 with crowding, crossbite or jaw development concerns
- Mouth breathers, snorers, or children with poor sleep
- Habits like thumb-sucking, tongue-thrusting or open-mouth posture
- Adults wanting to address airway, tongue or swallowing patterns alongside alignment
The process
Myofunctional assessment
A full look at breathing, posture, tongue and swallow alongside teeth. We treat the whole pattern, not just the smile.
Custom programme
A series of soft Myobrace trainers plus simple daily exercises tailored to age and pattern.
Daily wear + check-ins
Worn one to two hours during the day plus overnight; we check in regularly to keep things on track.
Lasting result
Teeth straighten as the habits correct: a stable result that addresses the cause, not just the symptom.
Aftercare
Once the active phase is complete, occasional retention wear keeps the pattern set. Continued nasal breathing and good tongue posture are what protect the result for life.
Frequently asked questions
Is this instead of braces or aligners?
For many children, yes. Caught early enough, Myobrace addresses the cause and braces are never needed. For older patients we sometimes combine it with aligners.
How long does it take?
Typically 12–18 months of active programme. Earlier intervention means shorter, easier treatment.
Is it just for kids?
Children get the biggest gains because jaws are still developing, but adults benefit too, especially around airway, tongue function and sleep.
Why don’t most dentists offer this?
It’s a specific approach that requires training and a different way of thinking about what causes crooked teeth. SAVOY has invested in it because the results last.
Do you accept medical aids?
Yes — we accept all medical aids. We'll explain any costs and what your plan covers before treatment begins, so there are no surprises.
